Launched the boat at 2:30 PM. Grey Sky about 58 degrees a little breeze. Went west from the launch past the end of the piling line, then headed to the north bank. started throwing an orange, red, and black brass pro lazer eye single top spinner. I added a pumpkin skirt with a black salt rind twin tails. About 30 feet off the bank slowly working my way back to the launch.
From bank to boat I didnt have a hit one in open water, I switched to my flippin stick (heavy line and 7.6:1 AG, same bait. My second cast into a fallen tree coaxed a 1 1/2 pound fighter to break cover and temp fate. That set the pace for the next couple of hours.
Water was clear enough to see the bait at about 3 feet which is good compared to the average dingy brown of the lake, 61.5 degrees at 3 feet for temp felt good when retrieving lures I stuck in stumps and branches.
Every fish caught was literally lured out of deep brush cover or off of stumps, and I'm talking tight. If my cast / retrieve was more than a foot away from my target, nothing!
Best fish was 2 1/4lbs, and I pulled it out of a rip wrap mess of brush, weeds and stumps.
Smallest fish was 1/4lb and about an inch longer than the bait I put together.
Never did change bait, except for replacing once when I couldnt get it back. All n all it was a good day of fishing.
5:30PM back at the launch (hadn't felt a tugg in 45 minutes) I talked with a fellow bass hunter that had pretty good success with a black and gold rattling jig, Same comments a mine, if you're willing to risk some snagging and tackle losses, there were some nice rewards for the risk.
All fish released for fun another day.
