Headed out to Riley about noon-thirty. First off, Google maps shows you can access this lake from Oso via Oso Loop Rd. Not true. Turned around, went back to Trafton and took Jim Creek Road. Lost about half an hour of fishing or more thanks to that. (Wife and newborn have me on a timer when it comes to fishing lately.)

Got to the lake, got in my tube and started trolling the middle of the lake with a red wedding ring tipped with a little power bait weighted with an egg sinker. Same setup that's been working wonders at Cavanaugh for me. Didn't work on this lake yesterday.

Thought I'd try for a bass so I went to the reeds, put a crankbait on and tried that for a while. No luck.

Figured I'd head home... put the wedding ring back on and trolled back to the launch and got a bite but couldn't set the hook. It was just enough luck to entice me to try a few more casts. But no luck. Decided I would try a rooster tail for just fifteen minutes (I was already an hour later than when I told the wife I'd be home). Landed a nice 14-inch rainbow on the third cast and took it home for dinner.

Nice, and Cavanaugh is a very cool lake, but gets busy with boats when it's nice. Makes for a real rough ride. I'm gonna have to check out Riley, I only live like twelve minutes from there, lol and never been!
