Mav186 and I decided to hit up Sammamish before the cutt fishing cooled down for the winter season. We reached the State Park launch at 7:50 and found it already open and with a ton of trailers in the lot which turned out to be due to a bass tournament. Due to the cool air temp and warm surface temp (62 –63 degrees) a nice steam/fog effect was present for most of the morning. We started off trolling in 80’ of water along the east shoreline and headed north keeping our gear between 20’ and 30’ down. We had fairly steady action for most of the day and found the center part of the lake was more productive for us. Mav picked up the large fish of the day that measured out at 23.5” and had a distinct “steelhead” look to it. Spinners took their fair share of fish as did my old standby, the Apex trout/kokanee killer behind a flasher. For a short stretch I put out a small silver flatfish and picked up a fish with that as well. As usual, we picked up approximately 1 koke for every 3 cutts, so be sure you can differentiate between the two if you give it a go. We called it a day around 1:30 and between the two of us we lost count of the number of fish we caught, released and lost, I do know it was more than 10. I have to add that the takedowns today were very obvious, unlike what I had experienced the week prior.
