We hit Eloika for two days on the 6th and 7th. The fishing was slow, but we did manage a few.
On the 6th, we walked out from the public launch on the south end. Ice thickness was around 6 inches. We only fished for about 3 hours, but we manages a few dink perch, and 6 LMB all in the 10-15 inch range. They were smaller, but the sure are fun to catch on a 17inch ultralight with 2# test!
The 7th we fished from Jerry's Landing, which is still a "walk at your own risk," but we found the same ice conditions there. We had very limited success at all of our usual spots. I think we only manages 6 fish in just as many hours and 4 of them were grass pike. We decided to move back the the public launch where we had much more success. I landed a 17 in brown and a few more bass. I then missed two crappies, both nice sized, becuase I'm a bonehead and tried to lift them out of the hole with the rod... anyway, we mangaed a few more perch, all small males that went back too.
All in all, it was fun to finally get out there on the hard water.
