A pretty good day on Kapowsin with the family, heres the rundown for 2 days.
Christmas Day-We had a large gathering with the entire family not far from Kapowsin. A few of my inlaws wanted to get together and do some fishing while dinner was being prepared.
We arrived around 11:30AM and took off in the boat and began vertical jigging in depths of 20 feet. We found that the best way was to drop the lure all the way to the bottom, letting the line go slack and then reeling up approx. 2-3 feet up. The fish are schooled up very well. The bite was very lite,so you had to be ready to set the hook. It almost felt as if you were hitting a small patch of weeds but the fish were certainly hungry. Color of jigs didn't seem to matter. We did use a variety of scents. Can't say for sure if they helped or not, anything from crayfish to garlic
scents. The majority of perch were rather plump and appeared to be eating well. Also had a few crappies in the mix and solo bass that was pushing the two pound mark.
All fish released
Dec.26
Pretty much just like Christmas day but the weather was unpredictable. We started around 9AM
with mostly sunny skies and a just a little breeze. The fish were still biting but not as well as the day prior. Around 11AM,the clouds showed up and we even received a very light dusting of snow. Then an hour later the skies cleared but a severe wind showed up from the west and we called it a day.
A few trout are being caught by trolling the main channel with wedding rings.
