I only had one day available to ice fish so I made the 2 hour drive from the Seattle area to The Cove at Fish Lake, Plain WA. $5 parking fee at The Cove, they were out of envelopes so I improvised. I headed out towards the middle of the lake. Punched a couple holes along the way to check ice thickness. There was 4 to 6 inches depending on where I punched a hole, 1-2 clear. It was just borderline for my comfort. Fished with just a piece of worm on a hook near the bottom, caught my limit of 25 medium sized perch, no dinks or jumbos. I also caught a few trout even though I was targeting perch. The bite died between 10am and 2pm. Caught a couple dozen bothersome bullhead also. About 50+ other people out there between the ice skaters, fishermen and people just out for a stroll. One guy that cut thru the cattails at the Cove, fell thru, got drenched to his waist. The sun was shining, colder than a witch's tata before 9ish, no wind. Bring a 4 wheel drive or chains to get out of the cove, icy driveway. I used the chains, no biggy. I had an awesome time, great medicine for the soul!
