I hit the water on the 9th early at about 7:30 am. It was still pretty dark, and a bit cold. I walked to my usual spot where I have landed many keeper perch already this year. I set up, drilled about 4 holes all about 20 yards apart and started jigging with my black Fiskas and a white Atomic Nuggie.
1st hole, nothing. Next, nothing. 3rd, nothing. 4th I was pleasntly surprised to get the first taker of the day. Hooked in about 12 feet of water, I fought for about 5 mins before I got a look at a very nice rainbow. This is my fisrt rainbow of of Eloika. I have managed many Browns, but this was kind of cool too see, even though I'm a bass fisherman. C&R after a picture. Didn't get another bite there all day, so I moved.
The next spot I hit was in another deeper drop-off. I met a nice guy, now Steel_Lee on the site, and we fished together for a while. This being one of his first times ice fishing, I gave him some tips and a Nuggie to try out. His maggots produced more than the Nuggie for him, but we both managed to catch some keepers. All keepers caught there I gave to Lee and I think he left with about ten. Lots of small fish. I also lost a bass that looked to be about 5lbs. Again, with the 2lb line, I couldn't get him to look up the hole and he shook me off. I'll be back for some revenge next weekend...
