HOLY MACKEREL or I should say MACKINAW. Once again I had the pleasure of being in Joe’s boat. He wanted a few fish to smoke, and I just needed to catch a fish. We arrived at his starting point on Lake Chelan, and dropped the rigged lines down. Today we started in 140 feet or so depth, and worked our way to the deeper trench on the lower lake. Joe had a new product to test, so it was going to be an adventure with a cause. Well, with the last trip still fresh in my mind I was on the edge, really paying attention to the depth finder and the rods. And I continued to be attentive. And then attentive some more. Something was wrong with this picture, and I was beginning to think the other trip was just a lucky day. About this time we were getting into the deeper water, 190 feet or so, and Joe said we should start seeing shrimp on the bottom. A short time later the shrimp started showing up, and Joe said “Get Ready for a hit. At this point I wasn’t sure whether he was meaning from a fish or if he was thinking of thumping me to change the luck. While pondering this, one of the rods went on the dip but didn’t hook up. It wasn’t long before there were dancing rods. Finally we had hit the right depth and conditions for action. Throughout the morning we had several doubles on, and a few triples, so the action was once again fast and furious. We had 15 macks in the cooler, so Joe said he would string them up for a pic then he could fillet them out. So the pic was snapped, and Joe starts in on the fish. I’d been watching Joe do his magic act of running multiple tasks so I figured no Prob, I’m up to the task. After about the second fish I was starting to get a new respect at the ability it takes to pull off the whole juggling act Joe does so well. While Joe was trying to clean the 15 fish, we hooked and boated another 13 fish making a total of 28 fish. At this point it was a little after noon, and we were at the up lake side of his fishing hole, and he said “let’s try for a couple more to round it out. So around we went, and started back down through the trench. No fish on the depth finder, no hits. Finally Joe gets one to the boat, Only one more. Shortly thereafter, I had a bite, and was able to hook up. Alright, get this one in and we’re out of here. While I was getting the fish in, Joe’s rod starts to dance. A double at the end of the day, WOW, 31 Macks, and we had been out around 5 hours. Not too Shabby. I lucked into the big fish of the day. It weighed in at 13# 8oz, and there were a total of 63# in fillets. Joe will post a report with the details later. What can I say But, WOW, Holy Mackinaw!!

Hello Snake7676, The WDFG pamplet says " LAKE TROUT Year-round No min. size. No daily limit."
Look at the regs for all species on Chelan Lake. Not all trips to the lake produce those numbers, but Lake Chelan Adventures (Joe), does a good job of getting the Lake trout to hit.

Hi ya MalottGuy, Fishing with Joe is great therapy (fish therapy that is) after a week at the "office". I would recommend it for anyone who can make it happen. There were two other boats on the water also, and we did see some rods bending.

Afk, That's more than I've caught in the last ten years, and I live close to the lake. It's true what is said about "Being in the right place, & at the right time", AND in this case "With the RIGHT Person". LOL Two of the lakers had Kokanee in them, oneKoke was about 6 inches & the other one was about 10 inches.

Lewis, awesome day!! I am all bug eyed looking at all those fish. How many fish did the new out of the package "test" lure account for? And most importantly, whom is the impostor in the picture with the fish? Something is missing, or you have done something different with your hair. Hmmmmm, what is different? LOL!

Have you had a makeover?

LOL It would take more than a shave and a makeover to My mug unrecognizable MotoBoat. I finally got Joe (Lake Chelan Adventures) in front of the camera. The test lure in question caught enough fish to be considered a success, but other than that, I'm not at liberty to say. Also, A good cure for the "bug-eyed feeling" would get the wife to agree to a trip out with joe. She would have a blast (if she likes fishing). While we were out there was a storm blew over "Stormy Mt" (a local land mark), and in its wake came two full (horizon to horizon) rainbows. Black storm clouds, snow covered peaks, all framed in a spectrum on color was totally fantastic. Thanks for noticiing the imposter LOL

LOL, Hey Jiggie, you know that the term Legend is sometimes a misguided perception don't you. I just happen to be better at "braggin' than most folks. LOL But it has been a great Jan for fishin, and I hope to be able to get out many times in the coming year. Go out and catch some fish.
