Today I forgot my 3 bucks to pay Jerry, so I walked out from the public launch. It really felt like unknown territory today. Not a perch bit all day today for me. I did manage to have some luck though. I finally went out and bought a sonar...right in time for everything to thaw =/ I drilled about a dozen holes today and I found one with about 10 feet of water. I could see some movement near the bottom in about 8 feet of water so I started fishing. I used Forage Minnows down to a #12 Fiskas and all I could manage to bring out of the hole were slot bass. I think I managed to land upward of 15 in a few hours on the water. A few fish were right at 12 inches, but most were between 13 and 16. All fish were released at the end of the day. I couldn't bring myself to take any home to clean.

Ice conditions are worsening, but still fishable. There was less water on the lake than I anticipated. About 8 inches of very cloudy ice and still 3-4 inches of clear at the bottom of the hole. Stay safe this weekend.

Nice report. I'm thinking the ice on Eloika's gonna outlast Silver. It still amazes me that you can have a non-stop bass day at Eloika and not hit a single perch. Is it possible there are more bass in there than perch, unlikely, but makes you wonder. Was reading about pickerel fish cakes today on IceShanty, and was thinking I'd hit Eloika for some bass and pickerel to make some. Your sonar purchase sounds like me last year; Bought it right at season's end - didn't get to use it until this year.

In my experience, Perch don't move very shallow until later in the season, closer to spawn. 25 feet is about as shallow as I've found them (in numbers of reasonable size) until March.

I am pretty sure Eloika is only 15-17 feet at it's deepest spot.
