Well, after I saw moto and raffs sweet report in the last few days, I thought there might be a chance for a midwesterner to get his hands wet on a big skie... Didn't work out that way.
Went out around 11:30am to about 2:00pm today, nothing really happening that late, I brought the jig rod for the perch and the heavy medium rod with some braid on it and a krocidile spoon with blue and silver patter I think it was the 1/2 oz size with the red flasher trailer. Usually guys back home hit pike through the ice with that same setup so I figured I might have a shot. I started out by the "black" ice and moved back in slowly to the front pier. Whole time jigging the spoon up and down through the whole water column letting it fall naturally to give off the flash.
Nothing happened all day, I poked about 4 holes throughout the lake today moving in close to the road and back out again, nothing was happening didn't even have luck on the perch. It's an early waken man's game out there this year and that is not me evententfully. On the white ice, it seems to be holding well at least a good 7 inces or so, the darker ice is about 4" or so, unless we get some good cold weather that backwater bay is going to start swallowing up the fishing spots.
Hopefully everybody is doing better in the mornings than my afternoons are proving to be!
Tight lines and heavy nets,
Fowl
