Not the day I was hoping for, but it felt good to get out on the water for a bit during Snowmaggedon 2011. I was first to use the ramp this morning, I got there at 9:00am with the temps around 24 degrees, luckily it was all clear, so no need to sand! The winds were brisk and coming out of the southeast and the skies were overcast for most of the day. I started fishing near South Point and no sooner did I put my rod in the holder, it started to dance. A 12” koke had picked up my hoochie 40’ down, or on it’s way down, and came home with me to be smoked at a later date. I’m always leery of an outing that starts off so quickly and my gut feeling held true. It wasn’t until 3 hours later that I picked up my next and only other fish, a 17” spawned out cutt. She hit a mini apex, also at 40’ down on the rigger, near the southwest corner of Mercer Island and was released after posing for a picture. Lots of bait in the water, as has been the case all winter, just thinking that I’m not getting out on the water during the optimum fishing conditions, the curse of having a day job. Aside from the cold and wind, it turned out to be a nice day and I saw a few other foolish folks out trying their luck as well. With my sister’s family in town from Medicine Hat, I also had a chance to pick up my nephew and bother in law and give them a quick tour of the south end of the lake just as the light pellet snow started to fall. It was a nice way to end the day.

I believe I saw you out there as well, Boston Whaler with a stowed bimini top? At least the precipitation held off, otherwise it would have been downright miserable. When I'm on the water I almost always have my VHF radio on and tuned to channel 68, just ask for g-man.

The boat launch on Mercer Island in right under the east channel high rise of I-90. Here is a link to check out, it has directions: http://www.mercergov.org/Page.asp?NavID=393
Wow, they really raised their per day launch fee! Looks like getting an annual pass would pay off after 4 trips. The Bellevue launch is just across the bay and has nearly the same daily usage fee, $12 on weekends, but the annual pass is $115!

yep thats the boat... and yes it was cold but I have minnesota blood so I was fine.. one side note also.. if you do get the annual pass for MI its 40$ which included 2 different license plate numbers. I have one for my towing vehicle and I can give the other one to my wife in case she drove over or something. so I thought that was a pretty good deal...

A late comment I know. I was impressed with the picture on your Lowrance. May I ask the model number?

Lazy39 - It is a Lowrance HDS-7. I've been running it for a little more than a month now and have started to get used to its operation. It is very sensitive and provides excellent images, I may even break down and get the side imaging LSS-1 module in the near future. The one thing I do not like is that there is no emulator for it at this time, hence the not so perfect images. On my older LMS527, I could record my day on the water to an internal SD card and view it on my PC at a later date.
