Well, I had just enough time to make a jaunt over o the Quincy lakes in Grant county to try for some decent sized Rainbow trout. I was actually hoping to try out my new 4 horse Johnson outboard motor on my Jon boat but as luck would have it, there was a newly formed sheet of ice on the East end of the lake. I met a really nice fella named Jim from Ephrata who was cleaning his catch of stocker trout when I arrived. He even gave me a hand tied fly AND a spinner to try! . We had the lake to ourselves for the first hour and but the fish weren't really biting for me at first. I tried a casting bubble and fly, a worm and a spinner with no takes. When I switched up to a pumpkin crappie jig, I got my first keeper, a fat 14" rainbow. My new buddy Hans(Scoutii340) gave me a tip on spinner color and between the jig and rooster tail I caught and released 6 trout and ended up taking home a 5 fish limit. The wind came up and it got cold fast. . It was surprising how few fishermen were out today. It should only get better as things start to warm up> Jiggy
