3/5/2011 8:30:00 AMI also like that lake very much. I have fished it 22 times, caught many largemouth bass up to 4 pounds, 2 ounces -- And, once got broke off by a "huge" bass. Of course if they break you off they have to be huge -- but I did see this one and he (probably she) looked really big. I have also caught several very nice sized crappie from that lake during the month of May on top water floating Rapalas -- 12-13 inchers. Tight lines!

3/5/2011 8:31:00 AMDude, that is a good size crankbait. Your going to want to match that with a good stick that's for sure. Is that a River to Sea? I'd be curious to see how it works out for you.

3/5/2011 8:59:00 AMGoodnight! I didn't use cranks that big while stationed in GA and AL!!! I'm sure it will work, though.....as the saying goes, "big lure, big fish".

3/5/2011 6:30:00 PMthats a "manns'' crank I do have sonar and got down trolling, i just hope I can cast it to get it that deep. It is supposed to hold the record for most weight in a tournament. You tube has the clip. Who knows though, I have lots of lures/bait that I haven't caught fish on. This lake is way to dark to hold fish that deep. I used drop shot half of the time. I don't like short poles I'm gonna sell my short pole.

3/6/2011 5:18:00 AMYou bet Procaster, You want a rod that will get that bait out here so when you do get it down you can keep it down. Match that that with a 5:3:1 would also help the body. My buddy just gave me a similar deep diver like that in crawfish that I want to try this spring, but really for me, I wont be cranking that deep, I'lll probably be banging it around 10-20' but a swimbait on the other hand ......

3/6/2011 1:36:00 PMwhen the water is this cold, and when there are no weeds, using a 20 Ib leader is way over kill, try using super light lines when the fish are sluggish, say 6-8 pound test, for me it has made a noticeable difference when the water is cold

3/7/2011 7:03:00 AMI was talking 10-20 ft deep. I'm usually cranking with 10lb test (mono or co-poly). You'd need 6-8lb to get it down 30'ft.? I'll use 4-8 lb with for other applications thou, but not cranking.

5/1/2011 6:07:00 PMAgreed with baconlober. In the cold water use lighter line. And me personaly, I use between 4-8lb test unless i know im going to a spot on the lake where you can get wrapped up in logs and other structures.
