Fished Washington this afternoon after getting skunked at Sammamish ealier in the morning, couldnt quite understand why. I trolled for a long time, herring, flasher and wedding ring tipped with worm, NOTHING! strange, but thats the way it is in lake Wash i guess. Finally, decided to go drift along in the current where the cedar river comes in, first cast, BOOM dragging and night crawler along the bottom as the current pulled us away from Boeing, 23 inch, super fat 5 pound Cutthroat, pre-spawn, had eggs big enough to cure, it swallowed the bait so i had to keep her. Wished i could have let her go, but bait fishing, and not trolling will result in this. Biggest ive got out of washington ever. Also faught a HAWG fish for 10 minutes, thinking it was mother of all cutts, turned out to be a 10 pound bottom feeder, IDK what type, squaw fish maybe, or carp im not sure. Oh well, one nice trout is better than none, take a look at the pic. Kind of looks like a rainbow, but its not, it had VERY defined cutts on its throat and the coloration was more cutthroat like than it actually looks in the pic.

So with all the rain lately... how was the water conditions in the S. end of the lake? Was there as much debri/wood floating in the water as I would expect? Water clarity also?

Funny you mention rainbow. Caught a couple cutts on Sammamish yesterday and 1 of them looked exactly like rainbow too, even some pink down the sides. But had the noticible red/orange throat marks. Game warden checked us on way out. He said some are a hybrid of the two and why the similarities. But who knows? Anyways, thanks for the report. I'm gonna have to try Lk WA now. Any good action towards the north end by 520/Magnuson Park area?

Sounds like a cuttbow. All the cutts we get out of Sammamish are the cookie cutter types, so congrats on the rare catch. Am I correct in thinking the cuttbow variations tend to grow a little larger than just the regular cutts?

Actually, we fished right in the cedar river current and it was clear as day, no color at all. I thought that was surprising. There's still some debris, but very very fishable trolling around the mouth. And yes, i was worried at first it was a rainbow as you cant keep them this size, but i thought that as long as it has those fire cutts on the throat its at least a hybrid, thus legal. I have caught a lot of trout in montana in the summer, and the big ones are usually cuttbows. The full cutts seem to be skinny, but when they have some rainbow in them they get fatter and usually bigger. That must be the case because this fish didnt look full Cutthroat at all. Personally, i only fish the south end of the lake, or thats all i have tried this year. However, i have a buddy who has been doing well, especially on kokanee around the Magnuson park area, so its probably worth a try rephresh.
