I have fished mattoon for the past three days and have yet to be dissapointed! I decided one day to finally catch a fish on a Kastmaster, as I have heard great things about them, but had yet to have any luck. Headed down to the opposite side of the lake and wow! The first day I got my limit in just under an hour with all fish being just around 14/16in. The next two days, the fish were about the same with the exception of 3 brood stock with the smallest at 4.5lbs and the largest just over 7.5lbs. What fun! The smaller fish are hitting far out and a quick retrieve ontop gets them to strike, while the booders are hitting a sporatic retrieve in shallow water. Fish will be smoked, cant wait! Good luck out there.

It was stocked not too long ago with those jumbos and some smaller fish. The brood stock have been in there awhile, and yeah it was a pretty dark fish but should smoke up great!

How many limits do you keep a day? A person with so many reports is sure to not follow rules.

Castalot: I keep only 5 fish a day...just like everyone else. I follow the rules very closely. I go to Central which is maybe 5-6 min away from this lake so I spend the majority of my time here. I try to never use bait so I can catch and release and only keep the larger fish. I release the fish in the water to limit the harm done to them. I have fished this lake, due to gas prices limiting my travels, everyday for the past 2 months and have kept or at least caught my limit each day. This lake has much more potential then people give it credit for, and I have been able to learn it better than most. So there will be MANY more posts to come, but I assure you I keep only one limit a day and follow the regs.

Bullshit. I see you out there. (I think it's you anyways). Drive some type of SUV? Explorer or a jeep? White or tan. I see you catch fish after fish. Even come back 2 times and walk away with a limit. If you keep doing that, there wont be ANY fish to catch.

Cant even get your colors straight? hmmmm.....and you state 3 different vehicles? I assure you that is most likely NOT me. Believe what you want. If I make more than one trip to a lake its because I HAVE NOT caught my 5 fish for the day.Sometimes I will catch 4, come back in the afternoon with a kastmaster and spend the evening CTR until nightfall. Example: If I catch 2 in the morning and come back with a friend in the afternoon we keep 8 fish, not ten. I have taken hours to perfect the use of a kastmaster and other lures as to not use bait allowing me to catch fish after fish (LEGALLY), and have an enjoyable day either by myself or with a friend. I have class everyday and fish before, between, and after my classes get out. Plus, apparently I can catch, according to you, several limits in the time it takes you to catch a few fish....hmmmmm....I am sorry you see me as a poacher and maybe next time say something to me instead of sitting here accusing me of something that I DO NOT do.....

I said 3 cars because I was not sure. You have a light tan Jeep. And most the time you walk down to the far end of the lake. A lot of the time you have on a blue wind breaker and blue jeans. Dirty blonde hair. I think one of your friends has a black Toyota? And I would say something to you but I will just keep watching you and wait to catch you in the act. Then I will speak up. So otherwise...good fishing.

Yes, you have me correct :) I try to follow the rules as closely as I can. I will watch what I do and assure you that you will have no reason to confront me unless by a friendly gesture. No hard feelings. Good luck out there!
