Brown Trout

Hit the lake in the drizzle and cold. Muskrats aplenty splashing around all over the place. Had to work for the fish.

Selective gear.

Didn't start getting bites until late afternoon. 4 hookups. 3 landed. Fish really put on an aerial acrobatics show today. The one that got away put up 3 fantastic tail-walking leaps in succession. Good for him/her.

First one was really silvery for a brown. Caught another like it later on. The other one landed was a chunky battle-scarred veteran with torn dorsal fin, torn anal fin and multiple scars along it's head and back that looked like it'd gotten wrapped up in some line.

Saw one pontoon on the lake when I got there. Saw two shore fishermen (looked to be fly-fishing) when I left. Hope they got some bites working the NE shoreline.

Can't reiterate how fantastic this lake is right now. Never really fished for trout before... wonder what the other lakes will be like when they open.

My opinion is the silvery browns were tiger trout. At least that is what one of your photos looks like. My wife and I fished Medical on Sunday. I rowed, she fished with a olive bugger on #3 line. Caught tigers, browns and football shaped rainbows to 20". I thought the fish were a little sluggish because of the cool water. I will try the lake again on Thursday with my FatCat as towing vehicle is in the shop this week. Some one said that the WDFG recently stocked Medical with rainbows and it looked like some north end shore fishers were picking those up.

Yep, that's a tiger trout. I've caught several from that lake. Wait until you catch one of those monster rainbows in the 23-25" range. They get real crazy in late April/May after the water warms! The beauty of Medical is the "trifecta". It's the only lake I know of where you can get a rainbow, brown and tiger. Motor1 did it on his first trip there this year! Thanks for the mention of selective gear. It helps keep the lake from being fished illegally.
