Many Firsts For Me Again!!!

First Largemouth Bass of 2011!
First Early Spring / Pre Spawn Bass!
First Fish caught on my new Baitcaster Combo!
First Bass I caught on a Jig!
New Personal Best Largemouth!

Surface Water Temps were between 50 - 51 degrees.
Weather was absolutely horrible!!
It was cold with very strong winds and a lot of rain!!
It was very frustrating for my buddy LMBDave who had one hell of a time trying to control the boat.

I threw EVERYTHING at these fish trying to find out what they would hit.

I threw lipless cranks, shallow cranks, spinner baits, buzz baits, chatter baits, top water plugs, top water frogs, texas and wacky rigged stick baits, creature baits, football head jigs, and swim jigs.

I caught this bass on a 3/8 oz Strike King Swim Jig with a Reaction Innovations 3.5" Smallie Beaver.
Both in Black / Blue.

I casted out and was twitching it and popping it along the bottom when I felt a lot of weight on the end of the line.
At first I had no idea I had a fish because we were pulling up branches and vegetation all day.
Also, I've never caught a bass on a jig before so I didn't know how it would hit or how it would feel.

So anyways, I semi set the hook and start reeling and it feels pretty heavy and it's coming in.
I'm thinking to myself, is this a fish? It sort of feels like a fish but it's not really shaking it's head or fighting like bass normally fights.
Then when it gets to the surface I see this bass and my adrenaline starts to pump and I'm absolutely thrilled!
I started telling dave to get the net but it was under my knees in the storage compartment and he tells me to flip it in the boat, and I did.

I weighed the fish and it was 3 lb 2 oz.
It's Officially My Personal Best Largemouth Bass!
The Largemouth I caught at Waughop last year may have been a little bit heavier but I didn't have a digital scale then.

But yeah, I am still ecstatic about today and catching this fish.

I don't have the fight on film but I have video of the fish on my YouTube channel.

Great job! I know that exact spot pictured there. Never caught a fish there, but I know it, lol. Way to tough it out through nasty weather.

@ Bob - thanks! i am definitely looking forward to using the jig more often! @ afk - thanks! i'm hoping to get into some pigs this year :P @arniejl - thanks a lot! we figured the fish would be close to shore hugging the cover but later throughout the day, would see fishing spooking / rolling 10 + feet out so it was tough for us trying to locate them..

Great catch! Did you look into the mouth? If so did it have orange stains all around the top and teeth?

Thanks Hawg Hunter! I didn't look too closely but from what I remember, I didn't see any orange stains or anything out of the ordinary. Looked liked a clean healthy fat fish :)

The orange color would mean the fish is on a crawfish diet.
