Went to Ballinger this afternoon to participate in the Sunday circus. Six rods and no fish on the dock when I first arrive. Only a few regulars were at the lake this time around. Had 2 hits in the opening 20 minutes and then the fishing went dead cold. Looking back at it I should have called it a day at this point because for the longest time it was the highlight.
Somebody who had fished the lake earlier in the morning returned with his son and reported that the fishing had been cold then. He said "Few hits and even fewer fish." He comments "at least the wind has died down..." At this point I was happy that the sun was out and I comment "well it's nice that the sun isn't being blurred out by a bunch of clouds." Next thing you know it got windy and the clouds cover the area.
Decided to do the ignore the fishing pole and maybe I will buy a hit routine... that failed. Tried the be nice to somebody and help them out maybe the fish gods will reward me. Fish gods saw straight though that one! About to call it a day and suddenly tap tap and I miss out on my third fish of the day. I'm feeling like Seattle Mariner batters at this point. I reload and cast one more time and within a few minutes I have a fish on the dock.
No photos were taken and any evidence of the catch were soon decimated by the local eagle who was all too eager to take out the young plant. I did C&R hoping that the fish would get a chance to grow up and be caught again.
As always I'll be back. This time with a lawn chair and 15 layers of clothes and gloves... of course it will be 90 out and we won't be able to buy any wind that day!!!
