This is a day for first, First report, First fishing trip this year, first time at Rock Lake. My buddy Dan and I, met some great folks there that advised us of the lake's bad areas, and how to fish the lake. Well no one told the fish that we were there. lol. Weather was fantic and water 44 degree. Had some real good hits but only landed a small this year plant. (we didnt keep it) Fish finder was going crazy with fish. Had a great time, Wednesday great day to fish , Plan to try it again with vision of those big German Browns and Big Bows on our next arrivial.

I was there on 5/4 from 10 to 2. Rock can be tough, but after awhile it gets better. We got a few rainbows and browns, casting and trolling. Nothing in particular was working the best.

I wonder if some of the stuff showing up in the fish finder is the floating algae mats. Seems like Wed there is less algae than I saw on Sunday. Water temps ranged from 43 to 47 depending on time and where in the lake (By the end of the day Sun, there were places that were 51 on the surface). At 2 on Wed fish were starting to rise. Last Sunday, there was a lot of surface activity at around 6-7. I saw some good sized chironomids in the off and on all day, so I'm guessing midge hatch.

Hay . we had a good time, its always slow the first time on a lake you know nothing about, was a nice day. All most all the fish was at 40ft to 60 ft mark. with a few in the 12 to 20ft. The only thing that we didn't like was the well know launch site. Thank for your infor. Hope to see you there sometime.

hey Bill Bean, I started fishing Rock this winter and it took a while to figure it out (am still trying to figure it out). I have been using orange bellied dive baits mainlly x-raps rapalas in the 4 inch range and trolling fast at around 2.2 to 3.0 MPH. We have had great luck getting big Brown limits with these. Mostly fishing the east banks and on occasion the west bank when heading down the lake. Watch out for the wind, if it comes up get off the lake so be aware of going to the end (7 miles away) as it is a bear to fish against it (I have made some bad choices on this lake and am lucky to be able to warn you, it will get you fast as it almost got me)
