Got to the lake just before 5pm. Met a nice couple coming off the water who said they'd only had one on between them and lost it. Another boat coming in had picked up five on wedding rings with worms. Said green was the color that was working the best.
Didn't have long to fish, so launched and dropped in a silver spoon while rigging my other pole. Water temp was 55-56 degrees. Beautiful calm night on the water. The other pole I setup with a home made mini-dodger and a really old green and faded white plastic spoon I found in the tackle box....think it was my Dad's back in the day. Anyhow, about 10 minutes later I get a solid strike on the dodger/old spoon (go figure). I watched the fish come out of the water, do a little jig, flip me the bird, and return to the depths to laugh with it's friends. I swapped out the other pole for a firetiger flatfish, then a gold spoon, then jointed rapala, then a regular rapala, then a spoon again...without any hits. Of course I thought my mini-dodger/spoon rig was going to be money, so I left that one on the whole time.....no other bites. Throughout, I tried varying my speed, running in S-curves, fishing shallower then deeper, closer and father back....nothing.
Saw one caught by a couple guys anchored up and bottom fishing. Met a couple other people that hadn't had any luck either. Quit at 6:30pm. At least my home-made dodger showed some promise.
