Maraget has been hot lately and so I've been there a few times the last week or 2.
Water temp is 52 and the fish generally near the surface. Lots of rises & jumps all around the lake.
We've been catching fish on just about everything we tried (flies, flatfish, dick nites, needlefish, hot shot, various spinners, apex lure, rapalas, hoochies, wedding rings) - but some seem to work better than others.
We havent had any problems catching double digit fish per hour - even using single barbless hooks. The slowest morning my friends and I had we estimate we caught 40ish fish.
The bite is best early in the morning and then slows a bit once the sun is hitting the whole lake. Although a few spots seem more productive than others we were catching fish just about everywhere in the lake.
The bankies seem to limit out quickly too. At least most of them we catch glimpses of them reeling in fish, and they are gone 30-45 mins later.
BTW, if you are fishing from the bank please leave room for people to get the boat in and out of the lake. There is plenty of bank room on the edges of the launch area. Unsurprisingly the people who plop themselves right in the middle of the launch area are also the ones that seem to be high grading - or at least have alot fewer fish on thier stringer than what I saw them reel in.
What surprised me is out of all the fish I've seen caught in this lake lately, I haven't seen a single one of any size. I would have expected a holdover to show up every once in a while. Anyway at least w/ UL gear even the small planters can bend the rod.
Tight lines all.
