OK, got to ask. You say great Catfish at Coffee Pot, and I am sure you are right, but how did you catch them? Coffee Pot is a selective gear lake, NO BAIT, and I have never seen any method that targets Catfish specifically that is not Bait specific.

Please tell me you were not using bait.

Good point Anglinarcher. I didn't catch that till you pointed it out. Although, twice, I've spotted cats in shallow water, not in Coffee Pot, and had them enhale a small sinking rap or a non baited jig that I danced in front of their nose. I didn't hook either one but they did inhale the baitless lures, it is possible sight fishing. I jigged in front of a few others that I saw, only those two bit.

Mark, I have caught Channel Cats before on rubber worms and even crank baits, but in my 45 years of fishing, this has happened less then a dozen times. I even worked a spot in Idaho for Bullheads with flies for over 4 hours while dozens were caught on bait. Finally I smashed a worm, smeared it on my fly, and caught a Bullhead on my next cast.

Cats just don't feed by sight or sound that much. They are scent feeders for the most part.
