Got on the water about noon and went to the far NE end of the lake. Started fishing the south bank where I marked several fish near the bottom on the fish finder.
The wind intitially was from the NE at about 10-15 mph, switching to the the SW about 2:00 pm. The air temperature was 67º The surface temperature of the water was 60º with a scattered thermocline starting to develope at about 18-25 feet. No bottom temperature was taken. Some fish were spotted at 15 feet, but most were near the bottom. Very little insect activity with only a small midge hatch coming off.
Mike who joined me on the lake landed 7, fishing with a green scud under an indicator. I used a green woolly leach throughout the afternoon. I netted 2 nice Rainbows, both about 17" long and lost about 4 on the retrieve.
At about 4:30 the wind kicked up even more with white caps forming on the lake and it started to rain so we called it quits.
From a historical perspective, this year has been the coldest, wettest spring on record. The water temperatures should be in the high 60's or low 70's by now. The air temperatures should be in the high 70's to mid 80's. To date, we have had one day where it reached 79º. Normally this time of year the adult damsel flies are starting to show up and I have yet to even see one.

Marc, glad to hear you got out to Amber......I really miss that lake, and others. Incredibly, your 67 degrees was our 76 here in AK. Has been in the 70s for us the past 10 days or so, when it is supposed to be in the low to mid 60s. We are looking at 83 tomorrow, which will be a record. This heat has put down the rainbows and the char in our local lakes. They've got a terrible case of "lockjaw" as a train of hot, windless days smokes us! Thankfully the grayling are still active and I was able to get a bunch of them this afternoon from a local slough. A green scud under an indicator, huh? I remember my fins covered with weeds and scud once when taking out on the SW side of the lake. Told myself numerous times to try the scud/indicator thing but never did!

Marc, if you move to Anchorage, the cold weather will just follow you. LOL

I have been keeping temperature records in Walla Walla where I have been working the last month, and only three days have been at or near normal so far. All others ranged 7 to 15 degrees below normal.

So much for "global warming". I guess we missed it.
