The "Puddle" continues to produce fairly well for stocker Trout. Just about any color worm troll will produce. However; having finally dusted off the much neglected fly rod, I discovered that a black wooly bugger slowly trolled behind the dock (our boat) can put you into so many fish that you'll soon grow tired of catching them. Some of the observations I've made are that a black wooly bugger works best in the morning, evening, or on cloudy days. An orange bodied/black hackled wooly bugger trolled on an intermediate sinking line during periods of bright light works best.
The largest fish can be caught in between the buoys and the shoreline, while the smaller fish seem to hover about in the middle waiting for the next 'midge hatch.
An incident happened that absolutely boiled my blood. My partner, while releasing a trout, let the dock drift into the shallows (you could see the bottom). He cast out his red/silver bladed worm troll and slowly made his to deeper water when his rod tip went down. When he pulled it up there was a beautiful, healthy sized Perch on the hook!!! He cursed and swore at what he honestly believes to be a "trash fish" and nearly threw it back in. 7 months I've been looking for these bloody fish, and my cocky partner pulls in the first one of the year and then razzes me about my fishing skills. Doh!!!
