Today looked like it would pour all day. We started on the lake at 10:30am and fished until 3pm.
There were light sprinkles for the first 3 hours, but the lake was nearly calm. As soon as the showers passed the wind arrived. By 2pm there were white-caps and 15 mph blows. Hard with a heavy boat, three and into the wind with the trolling motor.
This week the lake temperature rose slightly. It ranged from 57.8 to 59.6. Still too cold for the bass. We targeted trout instead and they too were tough! We've been hearing from other locals that the lake is really slow to give up fish so far and I believe them. No trout on our lines. Saw some very small ones jump and eat mayflies that landed on the surface.
Tried poppers, spoons, wedding rings, trout spoons and lures, and bass lures that normally double for both LMB and trout. No trout boated. K. boat two large sculpins fishing on the bottom with worm. P. also got a smaller sculpin on bottom with worm and one pumpkinseed.
They almost didn't let me into the truck afterwards as I smell like skunk!
Happy Memorial Day weekend.
