Average day at quinault, 8 fish total, although all fish were on downrigger. Two dollies, 2 or 3 lbs. each, the rest cuts with the biggest around 14 or so. would have fished Sat. but a bum leg (maybe a pinched nerve) has me taking it pretty easy, got to balance pre-derby fishing with keeping myself intact physically for the derby next week. Fishing has been a little off this year, no big dollies yet and most of the fish we are catching are deeper. Weather is prob. responsible, strange year for fishing and gardening.Next report will be a Derby report! Bob R

Thanks for the report. Does one need to have a tribal guide by law to fish Lake Quinault???

A guide is not needed on the lake or upper river, just on lower river(from lake to the ocean).A tribal license is needed for the lake, $35 for the year, I think it's $10 for a couple of days. You also need an annual boat permit, another $10. Neither is required on derby day, with purchase fo derby ticket. It's a good way to try the lake out, past reports on Lake Quinault should give you a heads up on fishing there. Thanks for wishes of good luck, we'll need it! bob r

Thanks for the report Bob. Eight in a day is a very good day on Lake Quinault in my book. I was skunked there this weekend but I was fishing from a dock and along the shore. You're trolling spoons with a downrigger, do you tip it with a worm? We normally are fishing the north shore from Kiwanis east. If you don't mind sharing, what do you find to be some good spots around the lake.
Maybe we'll see you out there some time. Thanks, Paul.

No, we don't use worms or bait although we do use smelly jelly sometimes.Working the various creek mouths (Falls, Gatton, etc.) is a good place to start, we also find them suspended in the lake sometimes, a good bottomfinder is a big help. bob r
