Cool report, congrats! Smallies will be somewhat soft fleshed after spawning, you can almost see your fingerprints on the males after the spawn..

I'm headed to Kauai for our anniversary this summer and would love some tips on fishing for Peacocks over there. Did you use a guide or figure it out on your own (this assumes the Mrs. is willing of course). Thanks.

I wanted to fish the big water with this guide who's a pro but it was 250$ for a half day and they just minnow dunked (too easy in my opinion). They have largies over 10ibs, smallies over 8 and big Peacock ect... I never could find land access. They feed mostly on little tilipia there so I picked out some grey lipless crankbaits at the walmart, a black jerkbait and bought a 20$ spinning set up (which worked surprisingly well) and the 7 day license was only 10$. The water I found was next to my resort but your not ''supposed to fish there''. I talked with the guys at our resort and it was on there property, so I was like... can I fish in that pond. They told me do it at night, we do! Every report I looked up said stuff like ''I've fished for peacock's for over 15 years and never caught one at night'' so my adrenaline was floored when I landed 2 in 10 minutes. The fish were in a foot of water sleeping literally in-between the rocks. I tossed the suspending jerkbait as close to the shore as possible, popped it a few times and let it sit for 20 seconds, then repeated over and over again. I never really got to get a good fight because there so fast they leaped out of the water onto shore! I basically tried to wake them up. Hopefully this is helpful.
