Slimy Slab and I made the trek to Lake Cle Elum this morning. We found the Lake is pretty much at full pool and launching from the beach went off without a hitch, lines were in the water by 8:30am. I started off dragging a Brad’s Mini Cutplug and my partner went with a doctored Kingfisher Spoon. About 5 minutes into our troll my partner’s rod starts twitching and he hauls in a 2.5lb mack. About 20 minutes later he hauls in a 3lb mack and I’m looking to change out my lure to something else. Well it seems that around 9:00am the bite was turned off as that was it for the lake trout for the day. We ended up working over some deeper water and once again my partner has a fish on and brings up a nice 5lb burbot. That was it for our boat, I didn’t even get a bump on my second rod that I had out for kokanee and we called it a day around 2:15. The weather was really spectacular, sun was out and just a light breeze from time to time. Water surface temps varied between 47 and 50 degrees and the water was pretty darn clear as I was able to spot my downrigger clip at 30 feet. I was going to post some pics with this report but I haven’t yet received them from my partner. If you run into Slimy Slab (aka Jon Calvo) behind the counter at Outdoor Emporium, I’m sure he’d be more than willing to show them off and pass on a few tips. Not sure what kind of pressure the lake will get over the weekend, we spotted 3 other boats trolling the north end of the lake today.
