I wasnt supposed to go fishing today but I had a maggot farm going and they were in white corn meal cleaning up, least wise I thought they were the last time I had looked; turned out they were dying on me so I decided to hit the lake and use em while I could. These were pretty small maggots but they smelled pretty ripe yet and all you can do with these is put them in the tube skirt on my jigs and squish em against the jig head as they were just too small to get on the hook. From the git go, the trout were just smashing these, I lost track after the 10th one in the first hour or so. Several hours into it I finally found a Crappie then another and then I just could not keep em off the hook. I usually only use the 1/16 oz size but I switched to the 1/32 oz size so I could fill up the skirt cavity with as many maggots as I could and it seemed to make a huge difference. Normally I am a purist and I don't use bait with my jigs but this has worked so dang well I am most definitely going to do this again. All the Crappie were 7" or under so not a one of them went home with me and I dislike eating trout but one pig slammed the hook so hard it came out the eye so that was the only one I kept about a 13" but nice and fat. Normally I show you my catches but there really were none big enough to get me excited to take their photo, but the quantity of fish I caught today was surely due to the maggots.. Klahoya!
