Up at 0430 out the door at 0507 on the water at 0732, Ozette special regs apply additional to State regs as it's in the park. No bait, single hook, no barbes, perfect for Dons Dandy Crappie jigs and spinners. Second cast to the edge of the reeds and hawg on, this went on for about an hour and then turned off like a light switch. Water temp 56 with fog giving way to sunshine calm giving way to the standard light westerly, sun now on the water and now the most beautiful Cut Throat Trout show in the world began , as of yet surprisingly no squaw fish. I do not keep the bass or the cutties so I needed to find some Perch for shore lunch, thats when I began to catch the squawfish, by this time the eagles were cussing me out for not having fed them, but they got more than their fill believe me as in between every Perch came a dozen or so squawfish. I love the aerial acrobatics and the wooshing of the air slipping as the eagles come in for the morning feast, I almost hit one with a flying fish and he almost got it mid air, meanwhile you can hear the juveniles cheering on ma and pa, and a distant Loon speaking Minnesotan to me, I love this lake! Triple tap zing and Perch on, slowly the cooler began to beat the drumming sound of success keeping time with the low humm of the troll motor filling in between the high notes of the Eagles clammoring for more. Dang where did the time go? Lunch time already, so headed to my favorite shore lunch spot and soon enough the heavenly smell of fresh fillets filled the air mixing with the memories of shore lunch pasts, I suddenly realized I had taken on some sun on my upper thighs, yikes kinda sneaks up on ya! Long pants on now the wind was pushing good from the west as is usual dropping the temp a notch, time to hit up my favorite drifts. As is usual a beautiful day had passed into memory, but what was not usual was I had no Gigantus Perchus Ozettes as of yet, only the common fare pushing the 10" mark, try as I might to eeke out the last hopes for the big one, I conceeded a beautiful day had passed and I began to take note of my sore tired muscles from trying to teach dead squawfish how to fly; just how many I can't say for sure, I lost count somewhere past 60. Klahowya!
