I took my 6yr old to Williams as he hadnt been in a boat fishing since he was 3. I should have looked at the topo map before leaving home. My son was using a gold & perch patterned kastmaster and I used a wedding ring. We arrived at around 9:30am and left around 2:30pm.

. We rented a boat from Klinks....they only gave us 40' of rope for the anchor so I recommend bringing your own and 100' if you can. I didnt know anything about this lake so I asked the guy who helped us with the boat where to go and what to use. He pointed off a little ways and said they were hitting gold lurers. So we rowed out over to the opposite side and trolled up and down because the anchor wouldnt catch. I didnt feel like rowing clear to the other side, especially as they were topping in this area.

I was getting pretty irritated through the day with people subjecting us to their wakes by boatinh pretty close to us. I was having to constantly point the boat into the wakes. I got to the point where I started telling people "thanks for the wake" as they would go by. Some jet skis were coming up pretty close to us as well. And then you get the idiots trolling around with their stereo blaring....I was about to ask them if they expected to catch anything with their stereo up so loud but they eventually turned it down. Whatever happened to common courtesy and respect for others out on the water?

Since I wasnt able to anchor off, I mostly rowed to keep us from drifting into shore while my son fished. He caught an 11" and 12" rainbow, and another one that was close to the same size that spit out the hook when it got to the boat. I only caught a 4" trout which I threw back. We kept the two my son caught cause he wants to eat them.

I dont really know this lake so Im not gonna give it too low of a score. I need to get me a fish buddy or a trolling motor so I dont get so pooped out from rowing on these larger lakes....or I could get into shape too lol.

My son now has the fishing bug and on our way home he was already talking about fishing next weekend.

Glad you had a good time. Williams has always been good to me. Trolling slow with a Les Davis Giant Cowbell and a perch colored F4 Flatfish.

If you want a buddy to fish Williams with holler at me. I have a pretty decent 16 foot boat and am very familiar with fishing Williams Lake.
