Ready or not here comes the 4th of July, 2011 edition. The water level on Potholes Reservoir has dropped rapidly as of late, with the elevation above sea level at 1,042.30 feet, roughly a foot & a half lower than last week. This leaves the reservoir almost 4 feet below full pool.

Walleye fishing has been great lately in the Lind Coulee arm of Potholes Reservoir plus in the sand dunes. The Crab Creek channel has really turned on, along with the west arm by “Big Dune” producing fish. Walleye action has been reported as shallow as 9 feet to 20 feet in these areas of Potholes. Slowly bottom bouncing a nightcrawler harness has been the ticket to big Walleye. The Bass & Panfish action is picking up as the water is receding, concentrating the fish making them easier to locate. Largemouth and Smallmouth up to 5 lbs. have been reported on the beloved topwater baits in all areas of the dunes. Matching the retrieve speed of the topwater bait to the activity level of fish has been producing huge surface strikes. Fishing off the MarDon Resort Dock is also heating up with increasing water temperatures, with many Bluegill being taken and some big smallmouth being landed. As the reservoir lowers, the dock fishing will only be getting increasingly better.

This 4th of July weekend we are proud to bring back our annual Golf Cart Parade and Fireworks Show! Sunday, July 3rd at 2pm the parade will start at MarDon Resort and run through the Potholes Golf Course and O’Sullivan’s Resort, ending up back at MarDon for the awards ceremony at 3pm. Don’t miss out on one of the area’s most unique events! The professional fireworks show will begin at dusk the same day. For more information or entry into the parade call Annie at (509) 346-2651.

The Sammie Bash Golf Tournament will be held the Saturday after the Fourth of July (7-9-11). For information call (800) 416-2736 or (509) 346-2651 or email us at Info@MarDonResort.com the application is also available on our website. The tournament is a fundraiser for the Potholes Underwater Habitat Enhancement Project being overseen by the Central WA Fish Advisory Committee. The CWFAC is a non-profit organization dedicated to improving the Potholes fishery. Our next fundraiser after the Sammie Bash Tournament is our annual Beach Party Poker Run held on August 27th, 2011. Join us for a great time at the Poker Run, its great fun in the sun and it helps buy much needed supplies to build habitat boxes to provide sanctuary to fish for generations to come.
