I was hoping I dont skunk twice in a row. And since I just got my new combo, I wanted to catch something it.
Woke up and checked the weather doppler for rain. Looks clear. Walk out the door and it's cloudy with a mist to almost drizzle...... I'm up already, so might as well go.
Go onto the water a little after 7AM. Pull up to my usual spot and I see bait fish surface activity. When I got closer, it spooked them and they started jumping. Looked like little fingerling perch.
Pulled away and started throwing a spinnerbait through and around the school. Got several nips from the small fishies, but that's it.
Started working docks with the spinnerbait and plastics. Nothing but a few nibbles on the plastic. Started throwing a small crankbait around. It got caught in some weeds. I ripped it out of it and then got a solid bite! It's a largemouth! Forgot my measuring tape, but had my new scale. 1st time weighing a fish and it came to 1lb 4oz. Guessing it's about 13" or so.
Thought maybe I was onto something, so I kept attempting this pattern. Didn't catch any more bass, but caught 2 small perch on the crank. 4-5" or so.
I really wanted to catch a fish with the new combo, so now I tied the hot lure onto it. WOW what a difference in feel between my Cabela's XMLTi rod and this new one with the same lure. Amazing. Anyways, I only got several more nips from small fish on the crankbait, but couldnt hook any of them.
By 10:30, the weather and boat was drying up pretty well but I was freezing. Wind was picking up and called it a day.
Hopefully this new combo wont go fishless for long.
