I went to American Lake Monday by myself to see what was happening. I overslept and did not get on the water until 8:00 AM. The serious Kokanee fisherman were just starting to quit for the day. I talked to some of them and they had some nice 14 to 15 inch Kokes. They informed me that the fishery starts at daylight and they pretty much quit biting about 8 or 9. I found out they were correct. I got skunked. They were using downriggers and using small chrome flashers with either a wedding ring with maggots or a small green hoochie. I bought my second pole addition to my fishing license so I had two poles out. One downrigger with a flasher and wedding ring and on the other side my tried and true ford fender with a strung on nitecrawler.
The water was 71 degrees at the surface. A month ago the water temp. was 61 degrees and the bite lasted most of the day. Might give it one more try, but the Humpies are just around the corner.
