MarDon Resort Potholes Fishing Report 7/14/11
By: Mike Meseberg& Nick Barr
With some of the strangest weather lately, the fishing seems to just be getting better and better as the water level of Potholes Reservoir continues to plummet. As the level is now at 1,039.8 feet above sea level, this is about 6-7 feet low. People continue to surprise us with some enormous walleye, including a few 10 pound plus monsters here and there. Not only is Crab Creek still the #1 walleye destination, but the Winchester and West Dunes are starting to finally pick up. Trolling a nightcrawler spinnerwith a “Slow Death” hook has been the hot ticket for Walleye so far this year. Although you can catch them trolling Rapala Shad Raps and TimberTigerPlugs if you are not into drowning worms, as a few of those catches have been reported. The topwater bite for both Largemouth and Smallmouth Bass is solid as ever and with the algae bloom starting to make its way out into the main lake from the back of the dunes. This will make the bass fishing even better as the water drops and summer proceeds on its path. With that procession also becomes increased opportunities for Rainbow Trout, Perch, and Crappie on the outer edges of the dunes and especially off the MarDon Resort Dock.
Our next upcoming event is the annual Beach Party Poker Run on August 27th, 2011 on Potholes Reservoir. Take your boat or jet-ski out to each of the dune islands to play challenging games and win the best hands to win cash and some great prizes! If you don’t have a boat, you can even play on land at the resort. This is an ALL DAY PARTY event with a special beach party closing with music, food, dancing, and more! Come join us for one of the best MarDon Parties of the year!
