Smallmouth Bass

Got on the water at 7AM.

1st hr of fishing, NOTHING, except for 1 or 2 nibbles. I'm starting to get frustrated. Was throwing a crank. Switching with dropshot, and a plastic worm.

I started burning my crank over some grass when all of a sudden, I thought I snagged onto a tree trunk. Then I felt the headshakes and uh oh, it's a biggun!!! Get it close to the boat and see it's a largemouth and it's HUGE. In the net goes but couldnt find my measuring tape. But this fish should measure out to about 20" or so. I noticed it was pretty skinny though. But weighed 4lb 7oz. My biggest largemouth to date.

Kept burning the crankbait and caught several dinks, 6-9" largemouth.

Got to some pads and was throwing the plastic worm. Felt the bite and see my line moving. Set the hook and it's a largemouth again. Not very big and skinny also. Was able to track down my measuring tape. 12-13", and weighed 1lb 2oz.

Caught a few more dinks. Was getting ready to head home and I finally felt another decent bite. Not a big one, but was strong.

Another largemouth at 15" weighing 1lb 11oz. This one finally looke full and fat.

All I caught today were largemouths and they were skinny for whatever reason. No perch or smallmouth. I did have a couple perch chase, but never hooked them.

They were skinny most likely due to the fact that they were postspawn

holy crap batman, nice fish!!!! 20" is a biggun regardless of the weight, which only matters in a tournament. Sounds like lots of action and plenty of fish. What sort of crank were you burning? Lipless? I get so weed fouled with a crank, i almost always fish a plastic worm...slow...
