Fished Tuesday after a nice vacation at lake roosevelt. A week away from the lake and it was a whole new animal.Pulled cranks in a 15-20 mph wind learning some whole new tricks. Boated 22 walleye releasing 4 23-25" fish fishing for the first time with a friend and fellow guide Cajun Roy. Also boated a Cabelas sweepstakes tagged trout but the contest ended the 14th!
Fished Wednesday starting at 6. 5 min into our day good fish on a line for maybe a minute and off. Trolled plugs for another 1 1/2 hours without a bite. Wind died so we setup with worms. 5 min later first fish in the boat. 10 minutes later boated a beautiful 29+" 10 pounder! Four fish on worms then the breeze returned so back to crankbaits we went picking up an occasional fish every 20 min or so. Then like a light switch the bite was ON! Three fish at once on! Ended up with 23 walleye releasing 4 between 23 and 24", a trout, one bullhead, and a 2lb crappie.
Thursday the wind was kicking and the bite was tougher, boated 9 walleye with one 24" on a short morning trip.
Great fishing especially for July!

NICE WORK! Especially for July!

I know it is perfectly legal, but do you usually ask your clients to release those larger fish?

Releasing the larger fish is totally up to the customer. We have a long long history of fillet and release on potholes but I would like to see these big boys caught again and again. Some people are meat fishing and it's a once a year or less opportunity to catch a couple great meals. Others let em all go after a picture. I would fight any increase to our current one over 22" limit, one is plenty. You know fishing is great when you net a 17" fish and everybody is excited it's an under!

Shelby, thanks again for a great day. The day was far better than I had hoped for with the huge bag of fish. It sure does not come any better for eating.
I was very impressed with the relationship Shelby has with the fellow anglers on the water. They all greeted each other and gave tips back and forth through out the day. I highly recommend him to anyone that wants to learn a bit more about the local waters with a fun relaxed atmosphere. I am hoping to head out myself when I get a chance and use his tips for some great fishing.
Thanks again for a memorable trip!!

Hi, I was wondering if you could give me some pointers. I am heading to Potholes on the 12th of Aug. I am taking along my fishing buddy and his two kids. staying at Mardon in a tent. I want to get them on some walleyes, None of them has caught one. I have never fished here during that time of the year so I don't know where to fish and what to use, also how deep. Any tips would be appreciated I need to get them on some walleyes. I usually fish earlier in the year when bottom bouncing is the ticket.
Thanks,
