What a great day on the lake. Weather about 74 degrees, almost no breeze for most of the day. Only saw two other fishing boats. Water temps 69.8-71.4.
We launched at 11am and finished at 6:30pm. Had a great picnic in the boat.
We caught and released 93 fish.
I was leading until late in the day when P. surpassed my body count. He ended with 40 fish.
One large pumpkinseed among many small ones and small to medium LMB.
K. boated 18. He also had one super pumpkinseed as big as a large hand. Most of his were small LMB.
I boated 35 fish. 2 pumpkinseeds, 1 small trout and the rest LMB. I do get to claim the large fish of the day - two real nice LMB. One super fat and 14" and the other 13".
We trolled an hour for Kokanee to no avail. Was marking them though.
The highlight was seeing a monsterous trout in the lagoon, and about a hour later we saw three monster bass outside the lagoon, (about 4-5 lbs each) swimming together like linebackers. Geez, that got us excited.
The most productive lures were wedding rings with worms and a small Frenzy lure with rattles inside. The Frenzy brought the two largest bass.
We always love to encourage kids to fish hoping it will instill a life-long passion. A family camping watched us intently and then Dad started asking many, many questions. After sharing a lot of information, we could see how eager the children were. So, we backed the boat to shore, and K. and P. gave them a new wedding ring lure and a handful of worms. With the bright sun and calm waters they could see the fish but didn't know how to get them to bite. We hope a bit of our luck rubbed off on them when we trolled away.
