Hit Lake WA yesterday around noon. Windy and choppy so hid behind Mercer Island from the wind and trolled. No luck. Headed to catch some perch in the east channel, no luck there either. The wind finally died down and I hit the troll between S. side of Mercer to Cedar River.

Nothing heading across the lake. As I appracehed the mouth of the Cedar area started running a zig zag pattern with the boat and bang! Nice Sockeye hit the worm tipped wedding ring and took off. Put up a nice fight. 22" and about 5 lbs I would say. Had to bring it in boat to remove hook, due to the way it took the hook in the gill, released safey and swam away. Caught in 65 feet of water trolling 45 ft. down. Nice day! - G

Maybe it is because I'm viewing it on a smartphone, but that fish has the look of a searun cutt.

I thought the same thing. Looks to be spots along the back. Does not look very Salmon like.

Thanks for the feedback everyone. First time I have hooked one of these on Lake WA so I was not sure. Figured it was a sockeye, although the mouth / jaw was a little small for a salmon. I thought cutts had more spots all over the side, not the few scattered ones that lined the back of this fish. Regardless, it was a good fight and I hope to hook some more of these again. Thanks! - G

Now that I'm on a PC I can see that it is a trout for sure. Looks like it may be a hybrid as the jaw is kind of short for a full fledged cutt. If it indeed went 22", congrats on landing a nice sized fish, I'm sure it put up a nice fight.

Thanks G-Man, that net I use is 26 inches from top to the bottom so thats why i figured it was about 22' or so. I have caught tons of trout in my day and this thing was so big I figured it must be a sockeye. Wish I would have known it was a cutt, would have kept it for the grill. Oh well it made the day fun.
Thank you also for your great reports, always enjoy reading them (Thumb and all), keep it up. Take care! - G
