Decided to try my luck with Island Lake in Mason County. I have fished this lake many times growing up as a kid. I was surprised to see how much things have changed at the boat launch. Found lots of trash/wrappers thrown on the ground and the pit toilet to be all grafitti'd up! Looks like lots of vandalism has occured at this WDFW launch. No one was on the lake the entire day except for me. The sky was overcast grey and a slight wind out of the south. I noticed much of my old "honey-hole" for fishing had changed drastically. Growing up, this stretch of shoreline was covered in trees and brush, along with an old rickedy dock in the water. All of this has since been torn down and replaced with a fine manicured shoreline. The bass habitat structure has certainly changed. I also noticed almost all the trees on the island are just about gone. Most have fallen into the water, I imagine because of large wave erosion due to high speed boating. I ended up catching all my fish in the afternoon/evening hours. Caught one little dink largemouth and 7 pumpkinseed. Surprised I didn't land any Yellow Perch while I was fishing, I remember there being tons of them in this lake. Had a great time overall and hope to make it back again soon.

Punkinseeds have to be one of the prettiest fish (freshwater) available to us. Atleast you didn't get skunked, but I understand the disappointment returning to a lake that had so many memories for you.
