Headed out to Forbes Lake this morning after reading the recent report from the Quadfather to try for some LMB and some crappie. Got to the lake around 6:00a/m after packing my pontoon and gear from the condo parking lot. I thought I would try for some largies first and crappie later. Worked my way clockwise around the lake throwing my go to lure, a rainbow pattern rapala. Caught a couple 10" dinks within the first half hour and then landed the 1lb. 13oz. largie in the pic. Kept fishing clockwise and caught several more 10"ers. Switched over to a crappie jig and landed a few more small LMB and two 7" perch. Saw quite a few bluegill following my spinerbait and nipping at it but they were so small I don't think they could get their mouth around the hook. On one cast I had several bumps reeling it in so I stopped it just before bringing it ot of the water and there must have been a dozen 8" bass checking it out.
Saw an otter or a beaver swimming around and made a couple huge splashes with its tail, I bet the thing was 3' long and weighed a good 30-40lbs.
Fished until 9a/m and it doesn't look like there are any crappie here or any hawgs either, so I probably won't be back. Cool little urban lake though.

Glad to see you checked it out. Sorry you didn't find your crappie though.

I saw that same otter/beaver thing. I thought that it looked more like an otter. I did not see or witness any tail action. It looked real slender like, such as an otter. I don't know though..? At first I always scream, Nutria. But it did not have that rat look to it.

I have been fishing this secret lake every year since 1998. It is everything Trimcat has said. The largest bass I have caught was 2.5lbs. Landed perch, bluegills, crappie, and cutthroat trout throughout the years. The large critter is a beaver. It's a great pond for someone with portable water craft to fish. One year the cormorants flew into lake and thinned out the fish population. The fish population have recovered nicely and this is a jewel of pond for Kirkland.
