I got the opportunity to fish with fellow Washington Lakes member, live2fish (Jim) We fished in the chain lakes and in the main lake at Coueur d alene lake. We ended the day with 14 pike, about a half dozen nice large mouth bass, and Jim's lone crappie. The fish were aggressive and great fighters. We had a few in the 6- 6 1/2lb range at about 30", and some in the 4 to 5 lb range. Largest fish of the day was 7 1/2 pounds and a little over 30". He was the odd shaped one on the right. That is the second fish I have caught this year with the same weird crook in his back. Spinnerbaits around the cabbage was the tactic that worked on both bass and pike. I would have posted a photo of Jim but I think he was a little shy and took all his photos home on his camera. You will have to wait and see if he makes a post of his own. We had a great time, and as always it was great to meet and spend a day fishing with another fellow Washington Lakes fisherman. Thanks to Mike and Arron for putting this website together. Without it, a lot of us would never have the chance to meet and make these new friends.

Nice lookin' fish hombre'. Did you keep any of them? I dont think the fishes back is broken. I talked to a biologist he said sometimes the fish just grow faster than their genes allow. This happens with the tigers too as you know. Good fishing trip though. Good job fellas!

muskyhunter, we did not keep any on this trip. I don't eat fish very often and my friends that do eat pike have plenty in the freezer. On a side note. I did catch another interesting pike on this trip. I didn't ge a chance to get a photo of him since he managed to flip out of my hands and out of the boat. He had a diffrent color pattern. Instead of the trademark typical spots, he had very small spots and was very light in color. I would be interested to know if there is more than one strain of pike out there or something. I have been catching pike in that system for almost 25 years now and that is only the second fish I have seen like that. I have a photo of the other one. Happy Fishing.

Nice job Mark! Sounds like a good day! I'm not sure about Coeur D' Alene but there are Pike that they call "Blue" or "Silver" pike. I don't know if its a different strain or a pigment thing but they are out there.

In the latest issue of In-Fisherman (Aug/Sept 2011) there is a short article about some of the different species of Pike. Amazing that these can be so different. Nice fish.

Thanks for the report. CD'A also has a pretty awesome fall bite before ice up. Might have to get back over there before the snow return. Nice northerns

Thanks for the invite Mark, it was a blast fishing with you, had a great time and learned allot from the Pike master, and you do "lk vang grotere snoeken dan je" ! Except for the fish that still has your favorite spinner in it's mouth I think you said it all! Thanks again!

Do all fish in Thompson come out crooked like that? Haha, just kidding. But just across the road in the back of Harrison Slough my buddy caught a weird one this spring that had light, pale skin on one side, and dark, normal coloration on the other. The color split right down its back from nose to tail. Gotta love pike!
