Largemouth Bass
Morning
08/22/2011

1150

Water temp of 72.

Caught a couple on a jitterbug to start the day, up to 8" Largie.

Finished with a few on a senko.

Nothing on a spinnerbait or deep crank.

In between got a decent Largie on the Jitterbug. It sucked in the Bug without too much of a splash, then swum towards the boat making me feel it might not be on there, then a small weight feeling, then it went sideways and I could feel some ok weight. Then I guess it didn't want the lure anymore and started fighting. THAT'S when I knew it was bigger.

After jumping 3 times it tried going under and around the boat, but I was waiting for her to do so and finally guided her into the net.

5 pounds, 11 oz.

Nice bass. I don't know why, but not many people I know even have a jitterbug in their tacklebox, much less fish them. It's an oldie but still a goodie.

This Jitterbug is somewheres around 30 plus years old. A couple hours after that fish the line got wrapped around the hooks and all, like it does every few casts. I then noticed the rear screw on the rear hook holder was missing. I have no idea when the screw decided to leave the lure. That fish was hooked with the front hook to the side of the tongue, and the rear hook was just in the slot between the gills, so she was lucky that she was able to be released.
