Sammamish has really slowed down for me. Boat traffic is higher than I have seen it all year. Wind hasent been forgiving either. I pulled this 18" 2lb largemouth out on Saturday, and then this 1.5 pound small mouth today. Also caught a 16" squawfish / pike minnow today, bigger than ive seen them before :(.

I really cant seem to hook into a larger smallmouth, I seem to have caught 5-6 in this range. They put up a fight like they are going to be 8lbs, and im allways shocked when I bring them up to the boat.

The 2 most recent I found in deeper water with a 5" carolina worm... and other suggestions for covering alot of water?

Hope you have a depth finder, or this isn't going to do you much good. Anyway, in the past when I fished Samamish this time of the year, the ticket to bigger and more fish was fishing deeper waters, 20 to 25 feet. Find the areas with quick bottom drops, such as off the sides of points and humps, or some of the steeper dropping shorelines, then drag a Carolina Rig, with the electric motor on low enough to keep your offering dragging on the bottom. Feeling your sinker bouncing off rocks is all the better. Once you catch one fish, stay at that depth within 2 feet range one way or the other. After a while you'll notice a 4 or 5 foot depth range that seems to be the best. It can be alittle tedious to start with, but unlike shoreline fishing where smallies tend to scatter, when they go deep they often school up. And that can mean some great fishing in a small area, and well worth the search. Like I said, last fall, my target range was 20 to 25 ft. But that could vary somewhat. Hope that helps....

I agree with tracker44 - the largemouth does look bigger than 2 pounds. At 18 inches it should weigh about 3 pounds.

I need to buy another scale. I got what I thought was a 5lb LMB last week, that everybody said looks more like a 7lb.

I sincerely appreicate the advice Tracker, I do have a depth finder, and have been slowly trolling with my carolina rig. I will keep at it, and take your direction on staying within the correct depth range as I find it.
