I went to Chain lake yesterday to try my luck. Got to lake 9:30am and fished until 4pm. Lake was calm and only one there. I put in and started with my top water rapala and caught 5 fish 20 feet out in front of the lilly pads on top water. I have seen this pattern before and figured be a good place to start. 5th fish was a largest a 13" largemouth bass that swallowed my rapala on swim back. Warning there is a friendly black and blue duck that likes to follow you around now.

It got a little windy and I had trouble staying in place doing top water so headed to far end of the lake right of boat launch. I saw some fish surfacing out in front of pads and lots of fish jumping in middle of the lake. Now you would think those are trout but they aren't. I cast towards the middle of lake with lilly pads about 10 feet to my side and fish on. Another 8 or so largemouth bass. They like to hang out on weed line this time of year and you can find them out deep on top water. I noticed they were chasing my lure and following it when they didn't get it so I dusted off my small 1/8 oz black buzzbait and thought I would give it a whirl. First cast bam fish on 10" and next cast another hit. I ended up with 11 largemouth bass on buzz bait and 15 on top water rapala. I did mostly a quick run around the lake with buzz bait and had quite a few others on the line but would get off. Nice thing about buzz bait is most of the fish were larger 8" to 11". Nothing like seeing a ripple heading for your bait to get your heart rate up.

Good day on the water and even saw a deer wading in the water close to shore.

all fish catch and released.
