What a nasty day to be on the water, and I loved every moment of it! It was raining and blowing and cold, just right to try out my new Frabil FXE Storm Suit and go drop some new brush piles. I had been peeling the bark off some of my firewood and finding wood maggots so I kept them in sawdust for the past week or so and gave them a good try out today. Tipped my jigs with one or two and it turned what was obviousy a NO Bite situation into a finesse show. I caught Crappie hanging out on the bottom and later they began to rise and feed for the evening, but if not for the maggots they would been sniffers only, as soon as I detected any change in the line I would slowly lift and micro jiggle then dead stick, that seemed to get them interested enough to lip it. I put the steel to a good dozen or so, and lost a nice one by trying to lift it in, probably around 11", all the rest were 9" and under and went back for another day. LOVE my Storm Suit, kept me uber warm and dry, I highly recommend! Klahowya!!

BMGW. You my friend are very hearty soul! Awesome job getting out and nice to see that the "slime rocket" Cormorants didn't eat all of Lelands crappie last spring. Jiggy

Heya Jiggy, you bet I will be honored to field test some of your Crappie Jigs! You know I got to thinking about how the Cormorant were working that lake and it seemed to be they would work into the wind which was blowing in from the N. end of the lake and they would work in groups always pushing the fish into the wind utilizing the middle of the lake. So I am thinking of putting down rows of brush piles out in the middle to give the fish the cover they need to escape those pesky devils, and I know the Perch are also using the brushpiles, I am pretty sure they are laying their eggs on and around them... That will be a huge undertaking as I get 2 brushpiles per 60# of cement footing, I use the swamp willow as it will outlast just about everything else that is of natural substance and will last a good 5 years. This should prove to be a very interesting project and study!
