Braved the cold Saturday morning and fished Forth of July. The lake was about 75% frozen over with a thin sheet of ice. We hiked to the middle to the open water. There were 5 other trucks in the parking lot when we arrived @ ~ 7 AM. I started casting with several lures - nothing. My friend caught a nice rainbow in about 15 minutes with a salmon egg under a bobber. The guy next to use had two nice fish, and released a 3rd using a worm 18" off the bottom. I switched to a worm with a Power Bait (rainbow) nugget off the bottom and landed a nice bow. We caught two each in about 4 hours and decided to stop - we didn't have a tape measure and the limit is only 2 over 14". The game warden met us in the parking lot on the way back and confirmed all our fish were over 14". The fishing was a bit slow for this lake around the opening, but so far, way better than last year. Once the ice firms up, should be good.
