Rough Day on Rufus Woods. Cindy and I had a few hours to spare, so up to RW we went. Today we were going to target the Yellow Perch. As we have caught some really nice Yellow perch randomly in the past, we figured we could catch a mess of them if we set our mind to it. We had received some tips on perch activity so we plied the weed beds and weed lines with the usual assortment of jigs and small spoons. Not one perch bite did we get. So break out the rooster tails, Crocs, Thomas Bouyant spoons and various other gear, and start casting the shallows for trout. We did the run and gun style of casting to cover more water, and it paid off as we caught 12-15 fish and kept three trout to bring home. We had one each in the live well, and as it was getting Late, decided we'd call it quits when the first limit was caught. As usual Cindy boated the next keeper, so in to the dock we came. We caught trout from below pump #1 up to the cabin hole. We hit various "Likely looking" spots along the way. Cindy got the 7# 12oz and the 4# 10oz, while I was glad to boat the 6# 12oz. We C&Rd several in the 2-3 pound class, and Cindy's Croc in perch pattern seemed to be the lure of choice today. Her biggest fish came out of the cabin hole while casting into the shallows. It hit in 2 feet of water, and what a show. When the water is that shallow, the fish does some spectacular aerial displays, and this one was no exception. On 4# line and Feather-lite rod, it was quite the performance. Air temp was in the mid 30s with water temp at 45* and calm winds. What a great afternoon on the water. Thanks Ken. A good day on the water with cooperative trout, but the perch at RW have me stymied. Someday I'll get them dialed in, but until then I'll just cry onto my Keyboard. LOL

LOL Triploid Pellets, Gotta love it. No snow yet, but I'm sure it'll get here. It sure seems odd to be this time and no snow cover, but it sure makes it easy to get around. Take care and enjoy the upcoming holidays

Louis. Nice to see you and Cindy getting some time out together. I wanted to share with you that I am pouring my own custom " Jiggy" jigs and will be sending some to you in the near future to field test for me. Lots of Goby/sculpin designs with names like 2.5" Mudd Dobber Drop Shot Leech and the 3" Matador Sculpin and the 1.5" Dyin' Minn-A- Crappie Jig ,that spirals on the the drop and glides on the retrieve. I've incorporated some design features that I learned from fishing with you my friend! Jiggy

Nicely done Loui, Thats my favorite way to approach Rufus. Too much fun. We'll be over there from the 12 thru the 15th. Brrrrr Those perch can be tough. Happy Holidays

Happy Holidays to ya basser90, Thanks for the comment, RW is a "get away" place for us. You can go up there and have a nice day on the water, and have a good chance to catch some nice fish. Maybe the weather will cooperate and your trip over will be outstanding. Stay well and safe

Nice catching there my Loui my friend. Always glad to see you and Cindy getting out t do some fishing. Carrie was only one to catch one yesterday when I took her and a friend down there. Was a good little pound and half eater.

Ahh, a blufin loui report on Rufus Woods! We sure have missed them, so glad to see you two back on the water. While your intended target may have been a bust, those are some nice looking trips that will provide fine table or smoker fare. Congrats on getting back "in the groove"! Our best to you and Cindy as well as a Merry Christmas! :-)

Thanks for your comment toni. I guess my rating is misleading. The perch fishing was a 1, but being able to salvage the catch rate with the trout For Sure Rates right up there. Toni, you and yours have a safe and happy holiday.
