Finally got a chance to go fishing and was seriously debating hiting Tokul for Steelhead, but thought it would probably be crowded, so opted to hit Beaver for trout instead as I really didn't want to deal with it. Only a couple of rigs at the launch when I got there. Launched at 11am. Trolled one rig on the surface and one down the DR between 25'-35'. Whe the fish finder was working, it was marking fish at 36'. Windy and occasional rain. Not too pleasant, but tried various offerings on both rods trolling between 1 - 1.5 mph until 1pm when I noticed my speed continuously dropping despite increasing the power settings on the motor. First thought I was just fighting the wind, but finally decided something else was happening, so managed to limp back to the launch without having to use the oars. Barely moving at max power by the time I got there. Loaded up at 1:30 and headed home. No hits. One guy out there on a toon trailing a fly and a couple of guys looked to be deep water bass fishing. Didn't see any caught, but wasn't paying close attention to much more than my gear, speed, and direction.

BentRod, I was the guy yacking at you at the boat launch. Funny seeing your report on here after running into you down there. Definitely an accurate report, we didn't get a takedown either. Anyways man, it was nice meeting you and I hope you figure out what's going on with your battery. Worse comes to worse costco has an amazing exchange policy. Tightlines,

LOL. That is funny. Yeah, it was nice chatting with you Keith. Like I said, at least I got a boat ride....in spite of my battery.
Funny thing is that when I got home my volt meter showed the battery was still at 80%. Didn't have time to check out the motor, so needs further investigating when I have time. Did you get a report from those guys in the green boat that came in while I was pulling out?

I did. Turns out they were bass fishing for their second time on beaver lake. They heard it has small mouth (it does), so they were trying to scare some up at the far end and all they way through little beaver. No takers for either of them, but I think its probably a bit early even for small mouth. The parties accross the lake never got a hit from what I saw, either. Finally threw in the towel around 3 (4 hours of fishing). One thing I will say, though is that I have had much, much better luck fishing the morning or the evening bite on Beaver. 12 - 3/4 is just slow. .

Hey, thanks for the info. I can say without a doubt that Beaver lake does not have small mouth though. Only LM. Pine lake has both. Now that you mention it, I believe I've had the best luck for trout on Beaver in the early morning.

Haha well I won't argue (I don't fish for bass very often), I must have just been misinformed. I suppose that's probably why those two other folks fishing for small mouth got skunked! Did you ever pursue my Kokanee claim? Anyways, speaking of morning and evening bites on the Beave, here's a small report that supports that claim. Sometime last week I went down to the launch and fished while doing some work for my project. I got out there around 3 and fished until 5 without a bite. Around 4:15, some older guy showed up and launched his boat in a HURRY! I'm not kidding, he got it in the water, set up and parked his car in about 4 minutes. Anyways, he went to the opposite side of the lake (around the rock) and returned with enough daylight left to gut his two fish (one about 16" and one a little larger!) I asked him what he was using and he said he just used some dough. As he was packing his car up, I began packing my rods and gear. I always leave one rod in the water while I pack everything up. I take the first load of gear back to my car and as i'm walking back to the base of the launch to get my other pole, I see it take a dive. Sure enough, there's a fish on. It jumped a few times and took a couple of little runs before spitting my hook. Anyways, I haven't been down there super early in the morning yet, but from what I've seen it can pay to stick around for the sunset if you have the time.
