4/2/2012 7:02:00 PMIf you are a once in a while weekender, which is fine, then opt for May-September. And yes, you can catch almost any fish from a kayak. You literally would not believe the sizes of various species fresh and salt that I and others have landed. Hope you watch "Kayak Fishing" on cable.
Safety first, but kayak fishing or pontoon fishing is a blast, because you are right there with the fish.
One last thing: If you want effective lake trout fishing, a depth finder and downrigger are needed. You can mount them and lots of places sell the ones that fit. Cabela's, Bass Pro, etc. The downrigger should exceed 200'. That or you have to know the lake well and/or follow someone who does.
As popular as it is getting (I've been at it for decades!), I'm sure there are others with up-to-date info that I missed!
Hope this helps. Tight lines, and God Bless.
